Kyrgyzstan 2026 was a great success. We enjoyed the culture, the food, the diversity, the fantastic scenery, the hospitality and all the walking involved. We totally embrased the country. Kyrgyzstan is also moving quickly, changes are happening fast. Now is the time to go, no reason to postpone or delay, many reasons for visiting now. We are returning in 2027! Compared to 2026, we added one more day! Please have a look at all the details below.

OUR ITINERARY, A BRIEF SUMMERY.
12 days in total. We explore the towns of Bishkek (the capital) and Karakol. Driving from the warm valley to the cool and elevated grasslands enables us to experience the nomad culture around lake Song-Kul. We connect from the nomad grasslands to the alpine peaks and allow 2 days for this. There is simply so much to see; the amazing lake Issyk-Kul (the second largest altitude lake in the world with swim-inviting temperatures) and several deep carved canyons with spectacular vistas and hiking opportunities. An area resembling more the Grand Canyon or a desert, rather than the grasslands we just came from and the alpine sceneries we are moving towards. Kyrgyzstan in a nutshell! Finally, we keep the main alpine trek to lake Ala Kul for the end. By then we will have acclimatised nicely, which hopefully enables us to enjoy the spectacular mix of mountain peaks, snow and lakes to the full!

Kyrgyzstan 2026 was good, Kyrgyzstan 2027 is going to be just as good, even better. I added an extra day and with that, the experience will be enhanced. One long day of driving (the origional day 6) will be split into 2 days. There is simply too much to see and more to walk. It would be a shame to rush through. Everything else will stay the same. Kyrgyzstan is a young and ambitious country. An independent country, with an mishmash of Russian, Chinese, Turkish, nomadic and western influences and a desire to stick to traditional and cultural roots. Nature in Kyrgyzstan is as diverse as its cultural background. In 12 days it will feel as if we move from Mongolia to the Grand Canyon to Switzerland. It might be hot, it might be fresh. There will be sunshine, there might be some rain. Most likely, there will be some of all of this.
