Theo Trails 2026

2026 will be a great year, the trusted mix of successful trails I walked before, combined with some exciting new destinations. Kyrgyzstan (June/July) and Albania (September/October) are new trails. In Turkey (November) I walked already with a German group the previous year. In addition there also will be a German group in Albania. I kicked off the season in April with a German group in Morocco, the stunning Saghro Mountains & Rose Valley trail. A trail so succusful that it will be a repeat for Theo Trails in April 2027. Have a look!

All the Theo Trails treks in 2026 are fully booked, there is no active recruiting anymore. Individual places might become available at a later stage and if this is the case I will update everything. These Trails will most likely be repeated at some stage beyond 2026. After all, they are fantastic destinations and it fits into my policy of repeating what is good and works, from time to time, in combination with further new and exciting trails.

A summery of the 2026 trails.

Kyrgyzstan  –  Lakes & Mountains on the ancient Silk Road –

Kyrgyzstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia, home to some of the finest world-class hikes; connecting sweeping steppe lands, primal forests, turquoise lakes and lofty snow-capped peaks. Kyrgyzstan has been at the crossroads of several great civilizations as part of the Silk Road.
Our 11-day itinerary will see us staying in a Yurt along Song kul lake, surrounded by beautiful alpine/ grasslands. We will be lodging along  Lake Issyk-Kul, the second-largest mountain lake in the world and will be camping in The Tian Shan Mountains, which cover over 80% of the country.
29/June – 09/July/2026. The tour is fully booked, we aim to visit again in the near future.

Albania –  exploring Europe’s last mystery –

Albania is a small, mountainous country in the Balkan peninsula, with a long Adriatic and Ionian coastline. Around 70% of the country is mountainous and nearly 30% is covered in forest. Albania became a Stalinist state after World War 2 and remained staunchly isolationist until its transition to democracy after 1990.
Our 9-day itinerary leads us deep into the lesser-trodden south of Albania. We are off the beaten track on old shepherd’s paths, pass stone villages, marvel at the rugged mountain world and walk on stunning coastal paths.
24/Sep – 02/Oct/2026. The tour is fully booked, we aim to visit again in the near future.
The same trek is run as well for a German group, from 03-10/Oct/2026, in coordination with Wuestenwanderer.de

Turkey – Hiking the Lycian Way  –

The Lycian Way is a well-established long-distance hiking trail in southwestern Turkey, along a part of the coast of ancient Lycia. It takes approximately 29 days to hike the entire route, which has a total length of more than 500 km.
There are several branches covering the coastal region of the Turkish Mediterranean. We will trek the Western Lycian Way.
Our 8-day tour mainly consists of Roman roads, ancient footpaths, and mule tracks. There are both ancient ruins and typical Mediterranean landscapes with mountains, villages, beaches, etc. Accommodation will be a mix of hotels and local, rural guesthouses.
01-08/November/2026. The tour is fully booked, we aim to visit again in the near future.

You have not seen the last of these trails. They are simply too good not to be repeated. So that is what I am going to do, shelve them maybe for a year, or two, but then they will be be on again. Sometimes trails are to be repeated year after year. It all depends a bit on reactions and requests so make sure you stay in touch and let me know if there are specif trails you fancy walking.
